Restore Sight — Free Cataract Surgery

Cataracts cause more than half of all blindness in Pakistan, and cost is the number-one reason people go untreated. Rs 15,000 covers the complete cost of one sight-restoring operation — screening, surgery, lens, medicine and follow-up.

At Al-Mustafa Trust, we believe that every individual deserves the gift of sight. In Pakistan, cataracts are the single leading cause of blindness — responsible for more than half of all cases — and hundreds of thousands of people live in darkness for want of a surgery most of them simply cannot afford.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Whoever relieves a believer's distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter." (Muslim)

By supporting our cataract surgeries, you are not only restoring sight — you are relieving the distress of families who have watched a loved one slip into darkness with no way to afford the cure.

The need — by the numbers

In Pakistan

  • Cataract is the leading cause of blindness, responsible for about 51.5% of all blindness (Pakistan National Blindness & Visual Impairment Survey).
  • An estimated 570,000 adults are blind because of cataract.
  • The number-one barrier to treatment is cost — cited by around 76% of those who needed surgery. People are blind not because the cure doesn't exist, but because they can't pay for it.

Around the world

  • Cataract is the leading cause of blindness globally — about 17 million people are blind from it, roughly 40% of all blindness.
  • 1 in 2 people who need cataract surgery can't access it (World Health Organization).
  • Around 90% of the world's blind live in developing countries, and restoring sight is one of the most cost-effective interventions in all of healthcare.

Why this matters, and the impact your gift makes

  • A short, transformative surgery. The operation takes only minutes. A clouded lens is removed, a clear one put in its place, and a person who was blind can see again.
  • Complete, life-changing care. Every patient receives full pre-operative screening, the surgery and lens, medication, and post-operative follow-up — so the outcome lasts.
  • We are ready to do more. Last year our teams performed 1,350 free eye surgeries in camps that reached 17,668 people. Our surgeons and theatres are already in place and running below capacity. Funding is the only thing limiting how many patients we treat.

Why you can trust Al-Mustafa Trust with your Zakat

  • Working since 1998 — over a quarter-century of service.
  • Around 102 locations across Pakistan.
  • Registered in the UK and the US, as well as Pakistan.
  • Audited every year by reputed auditors — currently Ameer Alam Khan & Co.; previously KPMG and BDO Ebrahim.
  • 93% score from the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP).
  • 13M+ people served since inception, and 100% volunteer-led — no trustee or manager draws a salary, so every rupee reaches patient care.

With your generous donation, we can continue to perform these life-changing surgeries and bring light to those living in darkness. Together, we can make a profound impact.

Donate now and be a part of this noble cause. May Allah reward you abundantly for your kindness and compassion.

JazakAllah Khair, Al-Mustafa Trust
